IAF and ISEAL Release Sustainability CAS Brochure

13 Aug 2024

IAF and ISEAL released a collaborative brochure that outlines the necessary elements a Sustainability Conformity Assessment Scheme (CAS) should meet to be credible and trustworthy. It builds on ISEAL’s Credibility Principles, focusing on transparency and alignment with evolving sustainability targets.

As global demand for CAS’s rises, it’s necessary to ensure these schemes are credible and robust to avoid greenwashing, and head towards positive social, environmental, and economic impacts that will benefit us all.

The following ten topics cover some of the most important components of effective sustainability CAS. They represent a subset of the criteria that are drawn from ISEAL’s Code of Good Practice, ISEAL’s Credibility Principles, and IAF MD 25.

  1. Sustainability impacts
  2. System alignment
  3. Stakeholder engagement
  4. Regulatory compliance
  5. Sustainability risk management
  6. Competency
  7. Monitoring and Evaluation
  8. Truthfulness
  9. Learning and improvement
  10. Transparency
