At the 2016 IAF/ILAC Annual Meetings in New Delhi, India, the IAF Task Force on Assessor Competence held a workshop to highlight best practices related to IAF Document MD 20: Generic Competence for AB Assessors: Application to ISO/IEC 17011.

Accreditation Bodies (ABs) were asked to present activities they have established to verify the competence of their Assessors in compliance with MD 20. Presentations were made by Dr. Vijay Krishna of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), Mr. Phil Shaw of the United Kingdom Accreditation Services (UKAS), Ms. Tina Garner of the ANSI-ASQ Accreditation Board (ANAB), Ms. Kylie Sheehan of the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ), and Dr. George Anastasopoulos of International Accreditation Service, Inc. (IAS).

Each presenter provided information regarding the processes being used within their AB, including sample assessments. A full set of videos available on the IAF-ILAC YouTube channel covers the presentations, and together with the PowerPoint slides, provides resources that may be used by other ABs.

The upcoming 2017 IAF/ILAC Annual Meetings being held from 21 – 30 October in Vancouver, Canada will feature IAF workshops on Product Certification Consultancy (21 October) and Persons Certification (24 October) as well as a seminar on changes to ISO 13485:2016 (21 October). A workshop on ISO/IEC 17011 will also be held during the IAF-ILAC Joint Development Support Committee meeting on 27 October.
